Samuel Elwell (b. 1635) received a grant of land from Gloucester, referred to in 1665, also a six-acre lot by the vote of
the town 27 February 1667. He sold 21 June 1678 land given him by his father-in-law, and 30 June 1694 bought of
his mother-in-law, then a widow, a tract of salt marsh at Little Good Harbor. He was one of the signers to an
agreement with Rev. John Emerson in 1664 about the town gristmill, and in 1694, being then 60 years old, he deposed
to the document. (Source: Levi Henry Elwell, 1854-1916)
